Help

Fantasy WSL is a fantasy football game, that is entirely free to play, and follows the FA Women's Super League. Upon registering, you can arrange a squad containing a mixture of players from across the league. As players have an impact in the real-world, they score points in the game. If those players are in your squad, you earn those points too.

Rules

Your Squad

Upon joining the game, you are provided with £100 million to select a team of 15 players. You can select up to three players from any given club in the Barclays Women's Super League. Teams must consist as follows:

  • 2 goalkeepers

  • 5 defenders

  • 5 midfielders

  • 3 forwards

Gameweeks

The season is divided into twenty-two gameweeks, each containing games taking place at a similar time – usually over the span of a single weekend.

The deadline for each gameweek is 60 minutes before the beginning of its first match. If the games are rescheduled, we will shift the deadlines. If they do change, we will let you know on the site, and via social media. The deadline to the next gameweek is always available on the formation selection screen. If you have the mobile app, you can also opt into receiving reminders via push notification.

The objective of the game is to predict who you think will perform the best, and arrange a team of players you think will all individually perform well. While you can transfer players, or update your formation, whenever you like, your changes will only be active from your next gameweek. At the start of each new gameweek, your squad at that moment is frozen, and that squad is what will score you points.

The bench & substitutions

When arranging your formation, you place 11 players on the field, and leave 4 on the bench. Unless you've played your Bench Boost power-up, your benched players will earn no points.

The exception to this is when the players are substituted. If a player in your starting line-up does not play a single minute for the entire gameweek, then the game will attempt to swap them for a suitable player on your bench. It will try to do this from left to right, so do order the players on your bench accordingly. It will only bring on a player who has played themselves, and if doing so won't leave your team with an invalid formation.

Substitutions take effect automatically after the last match of the gameweek.

Captains & vice-captains

You will nominate two players in your squad, one captain, and one vice-captain.

Your captain, identified by a C in your formation, earns double their points for the entire gameweek.

Your vice-captain, identified by the V in your formation, acts as a back-up captain. They perform like any regular player in your squad, however, if your captain does not play, your vice-captain will become your captain for that week, and their points will be doubled.

Power-ups

At the start of the season, you are given an array of power-ups to play. They can be used at any time during the season, but they last for one gameweek, and can only be used once, so use them wisely.

You can only use one power up at a time.

Triple Captain

When this is played, your captain scores triple points for the week, rather than double.

Bench Boost

All your players score points for the week, including your bench, rather than just the eleven in your starting squad.

The Wall

Any points given to your squad for a clean sheet are doubled. This means goalkeepers and defenders get 8 points, rather than the usual 4. Midfielders get 2 points, rather than 1. If your players concede goals, and therefore are not eligible for any clean sheet points, this power-up has no effect.

Transfers

During pre-season (as in, before Gameweek 1), and during your first gameweek if you joined mid-season, you can make unlimited transfers.

Once the season begins, you can make two free transfers between each deadline. Every transfer above that limit will incur a deduction of four points from your total.

Scoring

How do I score points?

Scoring is tied to player performance on the field, and is broken down as follows:

  • 1 point - playing one minute or more in a single match

  • 1 point - playing sixty minutes or more in a single match

  • 6 points - a goal scored by a goalkeeper or defender

  • 5 points - a goal scored by a midfielder

  • 4 points - a goal scored by a forward

  • 3 points - an assist

  • 4 points - a clean sheet by a goalkeeper or defender

  • 1 point - a clean sheet by a midfielder

  • 5 points - a penalty saved by a goalkeeper

  • -1 point - receiving a yellow card

  • -3 points - receiving a red card

  • -2 points - scoring an own goal

  • -1 point - for every two goals conceded by a goalkeeper or defender

  • -2 points - for a missed/saved penalty

Bonus Points

At the end of each match, we will award additional bonus points.

Players are ranked using an internal bonus point system, which rewards consistently strong play: such as tackles, passes, crosses, and clearances. It's designed to highlight the unsung heroes of the match.

The top player in each match receives three bonus points, the second best receives two, and the third best receives one. If two or more players are ranked equally, they all receive the same bonus points. This means, on occasion, more than three players will earn bonus.

Visionary Points

Visionary points are a new set of points up for grabs for the 2024/25 season. They’re designed to award fantasy managers who take a risk on less popular or unrecognised talent.

Players who are owned by less than 2% of managers are eligible for visionary points, but not all players under this threshold receive the points.

To score visionary points, these players have to make a meaningful contribution to a match. That means they have to make it onto the pitch and score one additional point outside the basic ‘minutes played’ points that players receive for playing 60 and 90 minutes.

Transfer Windows

What if a player leaves for a club outside the WSL?

If a player leaves for a club outside the WSL, you will need to transfer them out of your team, as they will no longer accrue any points. To make this obvious, they will be flagged in-game with a red exclamation mark.

What if one of my players changes to another club in the WSL?

If a player transfers to another club within the WSL, then their club will change in-game too. The game will continue to work, even if your squad now has more than three players from the same squad. However, you will be unable to change your formation, or make transfers, until you get your team back into a valid state.
