The Conti Cup final is undoubtedly the biggest fixture of the weekend in the world of women’s football. But here in the WSL, we’re looking forward to a potentially title-deciding clash: Liverpool vs Manchester City at Prenton Park.
Manchester City are currently level on points with four-time winners Chelsea, with just a two-goal difference putting City behind. If they can claim the win over Liverpool this weekend, they’ll continue putting pressure on the previous winners. But if the opposite happens? Well, let’s say Chelsea will be very happy.
But what can we expect? Let’s take a closer look at the game ahead, including the latest team news and what happened the last time these two teams met.
When is Liverpool vs Manchester City?
Liverpool will face Manchester City on Saturday 30 March.
When does Liverpool vs Manchester City kick-off?
Liverpool vs Manchester City will kick-off at 12:30pm. Coverage will start on Sky Sports Football and Sky Sports Main Event at 12pm.
Who is going to play in Liverpool vs Manchester City?
Liverpool
Matt Beard is currently juggling several injuries among the Liverpool squad.
Jasmine Matthews is currently dealing with a hamstring tear which, while not as bad as first feared, will see her out for around three weeks. Yana Daniels is also unavailable to play due to a concussion, while Niamh Fahey and Shanice van de Sanden are also out.
Taylor Hinds is back on the bench after her calf injury and Emma Koivisto is also back after missing last weekend's derby match vs Everton with a muscle quad injury.
Emma and Gemma 😊
As far as the line-up is concerned, we can expect Grace Fisk to return to the pitch in defence. She's been a reliable performer for Fantasy WSL managers throughout the season so far, regularly bringing in bonus points for her involved performances.
Nagano will also likely feature after going straight back into the starting 11 following an injury, while Hinds may get some minutes as part of her comeback.
Manchester City
Gareth Taylor's press conference takes place this afternoon (Friday 29 March) at 14:30, but there are a few key players we can expect to feature this weekend.
Following her standout performance during last week's Manchester derby, Jess Park has certainly earned a place in the starting line-up. Mary Fowler has also featured in the last two starting line-ups ahead of Chloe Kelly, so we may well see her claim that spot once again.
Despite currently being at the centre of some FA controversy, we're likely to see Kerstin Casparij return in defence alongside Alex Greenwood, while Bunny Shaw will no doubt be looking to further her record-goal scoring tally with another few goals.
What happened last time Liverpool played Manchester City?
It wasn't a pretty picture the last time the Reds played City; the Blues claimed a 5-1 victory at home following a hat trick from Khadija Shaw and an own-goal from Gemma Bonner.
