Our final gameweek is here! Who are the players that are going to get you the points that tip you over the top of your competition? For once last time in the season, the Scout has spoken.
Goalkeepers and Defence
Courtney Brosnan
6 points at home to Spurs in Gameweek 21 despite conceding twice - a classic Brosnan performance last time, Everton conceding a lot of shots and Brosnan saving them (ready grist to the save points mill), then gobbling up bonus to top it off.
,It's a routine that makes Brosnan attractive in any week, but on the final day, at already-relegated Bristol City, it makes her a no-brainer. That's partly because of Brosnan's aforementioned incredible floor, but there's a real chance at a clean sheet this week and consequen, tly an absolute haul. Bristol City are in the grip of a very long dry spell, with six WSL games without a goal. Between her own appetite for points and the fixture, there's no better goalkeeper to target this week than Brosnan. There's a haul that's very much within reach, and if she does get it, you could be in for big unique points and a solid rank boost: Brosnan's only 5% owned at time of writing.
Niamh Charles
A monster haul of 22 points in the Gameweek 21 double took Niamh Charles' extraordinary recent run to seven consecutive games with a return of some kind. She's now the 2nd top scorer in Fantasy WSL overall (!) and the top-scoring defender by a country mile. The fixture is great, too - a trip to Manchester United, who have routinely faltered against the WSL's best sides this season (no wins in 7 games against the four sides above them in the table, 17 goals conceded). The title is on the line, and Chelsea will be hunting goals at Old Trafford - Charles' attacking upside, together with form and fixture, make her a must-have.
Emily Fox
Arsenal have the best defensive game this week at home to the frequently goal-shy Brighton. Any member of their backline is a good pick, really, but Emily Fox's upside looks particularly attractive. Arsenal have shown occasional fragility on the road but are simply a different animal at home, having won every home game except one this season. They have three clean sheets in their last three home games, which is excellent for Fox. Plus, her attacking upside is worth chasing in a game that Arsenal will dominate.
When you combine those two things, Fox looks pretty good already — and a bonus is not out of the question, either.
Grace Fisk
It's not as clear a defensive edge as Arsenal's, but Liverpool's trip to a horribly out-of-form Leicester still looks like a decent defensive game to target. The Foxes have failed to score in four out of their last 7 games and Grace Fisk should be your first port of call, with rock-solid job security in a Liverpool defence that's kept three clean sheets in their last five.
Then of course, there's her enormous bonus points upside - 15 in this season, the most of any player in Fantasy WSL. Her upside is so great, in fact, that if you trust Liverpool's fairly reliable defence to get the job done on Saturday, it's not outlandish to expect points from Fisk as a starting point. If they don't, those bonus points are excellent insurance.
Alex Greenwood
Man City's trip to Villa Park presents probably the smallest of the 'clear' defensive edges this week - whatever their other issues, the home side do pose a fairly consistent attacking threat. But with the title on the line, Man City have everything to play for - and their defence remains the best in the league. If they do their job, Greenwood obviously stands to get a slice of those clean sheet points but also presents a couple of other edges over her colleagues.
First, don't underestimate the value of her goal threat at set pieces against a Villa side that's looked far from secure defending them this season. That's exactly how Greenwood scored against Bristol City a couple of gameweeks ago, in fact, heading in a Chloe Kelly corner. Second, it's tough to get them over the forwards, but if there's a Man City defender who stands a real chance of winning bonus points, it's Greenwood - she has 7 this season.
Midfield
Guro Reiten
Some Chelsea midfield cover will be handy as they chase goals and the title away at Manchester United. There are several options and there's good value in most but it's the red-hot Guro Reiten who I like on the final day.
An astonishing 35 points in the Gameweek 21 double marked an excellent return to form for Reiten as the title race hurtles to an electric conclusion. Besides stirring into life at just the right time, with Johanna Rytting Kaneryd benched in the past two games, the most recent evidence suggests Reiten at last has comparatively secure minutes.
Plus, it's a good attacking fixture against a Manchester United defence that has routinely stuttered against the WSL's best. Add her set pieces and penalty duties to the mix, and you've got a very attractive, high-ceiling pick at the heart of a team looking to rack up as many goals as possible on Saturday.
Grace Clinton
Don't let a quiet performance in the double put you off - outside of a Chelsea pick or two, Grace Clinton at home to West Ham is the best midfield option this week. She's definitely got one of the better final-day fixtures at home to second-bottom West Ham, now safe from relegation, with one clean sheet and two wins on the road this season.
The reverse fixture was an 18-point haul for Clinton - two goals, an assist, and top bonus points. Against Chelsea, her willingness to shoot when in possession was encouraging, and something approaching an encore is not out of the question. This is a game with great potential for Clinton and her floor's decent too. Already a lock for minutes, she's snagged bonus points twice this season despite not returning. Plant your feet on Clinton on the final day and big points might be in your future.
Höbinger
The top-scoring midfielder in Fantasy WSL is in a rich vein of form - 30 (!) points in her last three games - and has an attractive fixture, a trip to flailing Leicester City. Liverpool are on a run of three straight wins, with Höbinger pivotal in all three. Meanwhile, Leicester's form has completely imploded, with their last win in the WSL being in February, and their current winless run stands at seven games heading into the final day. That's a great matchup for Höbinger to walk into.
Plus, she's on set pieces and delivering them as well as ever - her most recent act was creating the winner against Manchester United from a wide free kick. And finally, those bonus points are coming like London buses for Höbinger - none all season until Gameweek 19, and then seven in the three gameweeks since, including top bonus points in the last game.
Forwards
Aggie Beever-Jones
Five consecutive WSL starts and 47 (!) points to show for it - Aggie Beever-Jones has been on an astonishing recent run amidst the injury crisis in Chelsea's forward line. That's the form sorted and with the fixture, away at Manchester United, and a title to win and goals to score to win it, this is a great one too.
Don't overthink this - one last dance with Beever-Jones could see you finish the season strong, what with her still being under 5% owned. If at all you're worried about Lauren James' return eating into Beever-Jones' minutes, as mentioned last time, think back to her run at the start of the campaign - a hot streak of five goals in five appearances, with only one start. You just need her on the pitch, for any length of time.
Hemp & Fowler
Man City's leading forward, in a game where they desperately need goals, against an opponent who only just ended a four-month-long run without a clean sheet: do not swing against Lauren Hemp this week. She has six returns in her last seven, scored twice in the reverse fixture, is excellent on bonus and a very safe captain. With the injury problems and rotation in Chelsea's front line, that reliability might prove to be Hemp's biggest asset this week.
Meanwhile, Mary Fowler has very quietly been on an excellent little run. She's started the last six WSL games consecutively, playing 90 minutes in all but one - absolutely rock-solid security, of the kind she hasn't seen since November. That run of starts includes two double-digit returns, at Brighton and Bristol City, with top bonus in both games. Last time versus Arsenal, Fowler did something that's only been done once before in Fantasy WSL - collect bonus points (2, in her case) as a forward without scoring or assisting in the game. Big differential at only 5% ownership, away at defensively shaky Villa on the final day - Fowler is an exciting pick for Gameweek 22 and her huge upside could result in some big unique points.
