Gameweek 16 presents a unique challenge for Fantasy WSL managers, with several popular heavy hitters missing. That means the right selections could provide huge edges and differential gains. From visionary goalkeepers to overlooked midfielders, here’s who The Scout is backing this week.
Goalkeepers & Defence
🔹 Loeck – In a tough week for goalkeepers, Melina Loeck’s eligibility for visionary points is a game-changer. Having started Brighton’s last three league games, she looks set to continue and has a simple path to securing those crucial three extra points. Brighton concede plenty of shots—between them, Loeck and Sophie Baggaley have made three saves in a game in 11 of 15 WSL matches this season. Expect a similar barrage from Spurs, which should rack up visionary points quickly and put Loeck on track for a solid score.
🔹 Le Tissier – A new era under Amber Whiteley and a high-profile match at Anfield shouldn’t deter you from Manchester United defensive assets. They remain the league’s best defence, and Maya Le Tissier is the standout choice once again, with strong clean sheet and bonus point potential.
🔹 McCabe & Williamson – Arsenal may not have a guaranteed clean sheet against an improving Everton side, but defensive cover is a must this gameweek. The Gunners remain a top-three defence in the WSL, and Katie McCabe and Leah Williamson are clear top picks.
McCabe’s attacking threat and bonus point consistency (she was in the bonus in both of her last two WSL games against Everton) offer a high ceiling if Arsenal keep a clean sheet and insurance if they don’t. Williamson, meanwhile, has collected bonus points six times this season, making her another excellent selection.
Midfielders
🔹 Hanson, Summanen & Cato – With several big-name midfielders blanking, the two Sunday fixtures — Spurs vs. Brighton and Villa vs. Palace — are prime for midfield points.
Kirsty Hanson (Aston Villa) is the club’s second-highest points scorer this season and already delivered against Palace in the reverse fixture, picking up top bonus in an 8-pointer.
My Cato (Crystal Palace) is the club’s top points scorer this season and faces a Villa side struggling with only two wins all season. She’s a willing shooter, with four attacking returns so far and consistent minutes to match.
Eveliina Summanen (Spurs) is back from injury and looks nailed for minutes. Add in set-piece duties, bonus potential, and low ownership (<5%), and you’ve got a strong differential pick with decent upside.
🔹 Clinton – Back-to-back 90-minute performances signal that the concern over Grace Clinton’s minutes is over. She remains a key goal threat for Liverpool, with strong bonus point potential and slightly more consistent returns away from home.
Forwards
🔹 Caldentey (C) – Must-have for GW16. 🔥 7 attacking returns in her last 5 WSL games ⚡ 18 Arsenal goals in that same period 📉 Under 9% ownership
With attacking options thinner than usual, Mariona Caldentey is the perfect captain pick to gain an edge. She has a great fixture against Everton, penalty duties, and red-hot form—everything you need for a huge return.
🔹 Terland – Elisabeth Terland ticks all the boxes: great upside, underrated consistency, and relatively low ownership. Back from injury, she stands out as a top forward option in a gameweek where many big names blank. The reverse fixture saw her land a 7-pointer, part of a seven-game run where she’s only blanked once. The floor, ceiling, and differential edge are all there.
🔹 England – Beth England dominates Spurs’ attacking output, but her record against Brighton specifically makes her an even more compelling pick. In her last two WSL games against Brighton, she has posted an 8-pointer and a 7-pointer, collecting bonus points both times. With only 8% ownership, there’s an edge to be gained.
Final Thoughts
With key players missing in GW16, smart differentials and reliable starters will define the gameweek. If you’re chasing points, Caldentey (C) is a huge opportunity to make gains. If you want safety, Le Tissier, McCabe, and Williamson offer stability. And if you want an edge, Terland and England could be the surprise game-changers.
Time to lock in those teams.
